The Washington Post Page 1s a story about the success of social programs keeping people from slipping into poverty. They grab conservative social analyst Scott Winship to say what he usually says, that all we’re doing is abetting lazy loafers who’d otherwise go find jobs. Of course, in the current labor market, there are about 3 people looking for a job for every 1 job opening, which kinda undercuts the Puritan Work Ethic argument. Perhaps he never read Kant’s famous observation that “ought” implies “can.”
