November 3, 1957: the World Hasn’t Been Quite the Same Since

Jerry Lee didn’t want to record the song, at first, calling it sinful, but Sun Records owner Sam Phillips prevailed. It was cut October 8th and released less than a month later. It went to #5 on the pop, R&B, and country charts right away and eventually became a Billboard #1. Written by Otis Blackwell and Jack Hammer (how appropriate), it’s considered one of the most influential rock ‘n’ roll songs in history.
