Jayson Stark has a good piece up on ESPN’s website (ignore the stupid video clip) about baseball’s one-game Wild Card playoff. I hate this idea, along with the designated hitter and artificial turf (which, thankfully, has fallen out of favor). Yes, the Cardinals got into the Championship Series last year winning the first of these in the NL (with the help of the infield fly rule interpretation). But to get into a post-season, you should have to win a division. Better baseball would create four divisions in each league, and those champions get to play in October.
