That’s what a household receiving food stamps would be left with under the budget cuts being proposed in the House. Note the excuse is all that waste, fraud and abuse. It’s likely that doesn’t actually exist, but even to the extent that it might, the answer is to go after the wasters, fraudsters and abusers, not push millions of people into hunger.
Note, too, the Heritage white paper claiming the debt “will continue to grow rapidly,” ergo, we have to punish the poor (they don’t say it that way, of course). Last I checked, we’ve been paying down the debt. Of course, raising taxes back to the (still relatively low) Clinton-era levels might help:
