Now THAT’S the Adam Wainwright We Know

Seven shutout innings. Two hits, 2 walks, 8Ks, including the last 4 batters he faced.

He even went 1 for 3, a double, for which he took a bow:

He’s probably blown his chance at the Cy Young after being beaten up by the Reds twice in 6 days, but he still has an outside chance at 20 wins.

Redbird offense made the most of 6 hits, scoring 5 times. After a Godzilla evening last night, the top of the order went a collective 2 for 16 (both hits from Molina) and drew 2 walks, but they scored 4 times. David Freese added the 5th with a home run in the 6th inning.

Now a half-game up, and Michael Wacha goes tomorrow to try to open a little more daylight between us and the Bucs. After that, 19 games to go, 12 at home, and only 3 against a club with a winning record this season, the Nationals.
