Cardinals Start Important Homestand With a Win

We needed that. The Braves have had the Cardinals’ number, but Joe Kelly led his team to another win, his 5th, with six innings of work. He threw 109 pitches, 64 for strikes, and he allowed 7 hits, but only 2 runs. Not outstanding, but good enough to win, which is good enough.

David Freese had two RBIs, and the top of the order performed well:

Matt Carpenter 2-5
Carlos Beltran 2-4
Matt Holliday 2-3.

Wain-O back on the mound tomorrow, after a strong showing this past Sunday. If we can at least split the series at home, we’ll be in decent shape before facing Pittsburgh for 6 and Cincinnati for 7.
