Joe Nocera, NYT, wrote an excellent commentary on the impact of one of the many lies about how the Recession began

Mr. Nocera is quickly becoming my favorite columnist. He published this piece in Friday’s Times about the ongoing Big Lie that claims Fannie and Freddie destroyed the economy. This particular lie is like a vampire, refusing to die and sucking the life out of policy debates. That’s where Nocera’s column, which was already top-notch for its careful destructuring of the Lie, takes it up a notch. He points to the goal of this technique, which is to stop change.

You may have to sign up to read this, if you’ve already read 20 Times pieces online this month, but trust me, however you can read it, do.
