U.S.S. Arizona goes down in flames

Only the 9/11 terrorist attacks carry the same psychic weight as the sneak attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. FDR called it a “date which will live in infamy,” and it has been burned deep into the American consciousness for generations since. It was the moment when we went from being an isolationist nation to a globally-engaged nation, a path we continue to tread, for both good and ill.
